Season 2, Episode 3

In this week's episode, author and speaker, Peter Thornhill, is our special guest, and he'll discuss his secrets to beating the market, including owning high quality industrials and LICs, and holding them forever. Firstlinks' Graham Hand addresses the question of why ETFs receive blanket media coverage when they're small fry compared with managed funds, and Morningstar's Peter Warnes, will give his latest outlook for our economy and market.

Thank you Peter. Fortunately I "got it" from an early presentation from you near Brisbane (Manly Yacht Club) in 1997, and became one of your 10% true believers. Now that I am well into my retirement, like you I am now only topping up my few long established LICs and reducing my "remaining" blue chips from my pre retirement years. I now look forward to your proposed Seminar in Brisbane sometime soon - for "old times sake".

Good to hear from Peter Thornhill again, I am one of his "10% true believers"........bought his book, the strategy is simple and makes sense, dollar cost averaging if that works for you, buy long term LICs when they are trading cheaper than their NTA, or when the market falls (think Covid), watch the dividends grow, and rarely sell. It works!!

Checking the City of London annual report read the first 10 -12 pages.A brief company history and then the compounding since 1966.Then the breakdown of the 40 companies that make up 78% of the fund. An Australian version would probably be Saul / Patts ( WHSP). The problem is telling people that compounding works over a long period of time, not 3 years. CBA,WES and MQG have produced astonishing results for me,exactly the same thing. Good management and the ability to continue to have good management over decades works .
