High conviction investments from leading portfolio managers
In a departure from our usual newsletter format, Cuffelinks reports on the first Sohn Hearts & Minds Investment Leaders Conference held in Sydney. A similar event in New York has established itself over 20 years as the best investment conference in the world. The Ira Sohn investment charity event honours a Wall Street professional who lost his life to cancer at age 29. The donation website is here.
The Conference is a day of investing ideas and big calls. Each high-profile portfolio manager is given 10 minutes to outline one major investible insight. It's rare that managers of diversified portfolios identify a single most-preferred investment. Attendees paid up to $10,000 each to raise money for medical research and hear the presentations.
In addition to the portfolio managers, longer talks were given by the legendary Howard Marks and The Hon Paul Keating entertained with his global insights and view of the future.
It was tempting to make this a Trump-free edition, given the millions of words already written, but Ashley Owen has provided a short summary of market impacts.
And a reminder of another great cause, the mental health awareness night at The Basement featuring Mental as Anything, with details linked here.
